WA Day Festival 2024: Music festival cancelled as Burswood Park is hit with heavy rain

WA Day Festival was due to take place on Sunday and Monday in Perth, with Eskimo Joe, Guy Sebastian and Pond playing.

Another Australian music festival has been cancelled, this time because of bad weather.

WA Day Festival was due to take place on Sunday and Monday in Perth, with Eskimo Joe,Guy Sebastian and Pond playing.

But the free event has been called off after storms left Burswood Park waterlogged.

'We understand the disappointment this may cause and apologise for any inconvenience. The safety of our attendees, staff and performers is our top priority,' a statement from the festival's organisers Celebrate WA said.

Pictures from the park show how it resembles a quagmire, with large muddy puddles strewn across the sodden fields.

Perth is forecast to be hit with more heavy rain over the weekend, with up to 20mm predicted on Saturday and 45mm on Sunday.

WA Premier Roger Cook said the festival could be rescheduled.

'We will work with the organisers and other key sponsors to potentially put on a free community event later in the year to celebrate our incredible State,' Mr Cook said.

More to come.
